Owning a shop is a great way to make money on neopets. It costs 150 NP to start a shop and you get to put 5 items in.

Shop Size
It would be very worth while to invest in updating your shop size. If you're planning on being a restocker or at least carry a few items regularly...then you should definately upgrade your site. It's amazing how fast money just flows in when you have a great shop.

Shop Names
If you have an account 13+ you probably want to make a more creative name than "A little of this and that". You want to have a name that mimics your shop. For instance, if you sell plushies, you don't want to name your shop "Neoworld of FOOD". Get it?

Shop Keeper
Say you run a shop with battledome items, would you really want your shop keeper to be a baby acara? It's best to have your shopkeeper match the "theme" of your shop. For example, if you sell food, it would be smart to have an orange chia as your shopkeeper.

The greeting your shop keeper says should be friendly or funny, because it can tell alot about who you are. For example, if your shopkeeper says "Just buy something and get out!" it makes you sound mean, and is unappealing to your customers. "Welcome to my shop!" is unoriginal and I wouldn't suggest it. You want something that sounds like you and makes shoppers feel happy.

Prices
I have noticed that some people are attached to the idea of selling cheap items for 99,999 NP. I've seen blue ixi plushies for 100,000 NP!!! (Just to let you know, they are worth about 2 neopoints.) This is a ridduculous thing to ask of people. Never charge over 100 nps more for something you got. Otherwise, it is almost like scamming some unknowing newbie. Be fair to earn money. Charging outrageous prices for things that should cost less is dumb, as no one will ever buy anything, and no one will ever come back. In short, you won't make ANY money.

You should do a search in the shop wizard and see how other people have priced the same item. Then, I would suggest to price your item 5 nps lower than the lowest price. Shoppers believe EVERY neopoint counts, so even pricing only 5 nps less will get you the most customers.

What Should I Sell?
I personally reccommend selling food, because EVERYONE needs food! I wouldn't reccommend selling clothes, because there is no use for clothes. Plushies don't sell so well, but petpets are great! The best thing to remember is to sell what you're passionate about. No one wants to buy something from your shop whose shop description is "Take this junk of my hands...". Talk about how cool your stuff is, and how great they would be to buy it! Make people feel special!

Advertizing
Advertizing is the KEY to shop success! You simply MUST advertize if you want a popular shop. It's unlikely that random people will buy from your shop if they don't know it even exists.

Where to advertize?
The boards are perfect advertizing places. Shop ADS is made specifically for advertizers. Remember to add smile faces and capital letters to attract people to your post. Tell them about your shop, don't just say "visit". Tell them, "I sell plushies, food, and petpets!" so they know if they want to go there or not.
